Frustrated with her poor vision and having multiple pairs of glasses, Barbara opted for monovision. This is a setup when one eye is set for distance while the other is corrected precisely for up close viewing. There's an adaptation period involved when patients have never tried this before but once they adjust, they get to enjoy the "best of both worlds." I tell every patient that monovision is not for every individual but when it works for you, it's a great multi-functional setup. Barbara had already tried monovision with contacts before seeking our help to make it permanent and the results turned out wonderful. She can now drive and read the menu at a restaurant without glasses.

I think the most exciting part about this procedure is that I can now see. I have brought part of my youth back and it's exciting because I can read the newspaper, see the clock in the morning, which I could not see before the surgery. It's simply the best thing that has happened to me in my life.

After having spent her life taking care of her friends and family, Virginia realized that it was time to reshuffle her priorities and do something for herself. Having both farsightedness and presbyopia made her distance and near vision blurry and she was ready to put an end to all that. After our consultation with Virginia, I had recommended monovision(setup in which the dominant eye is set for distance vision and the non-dominant eye is set for near vision). After trying monovision, Virginia knew immediately this was the solution she has been searching for--today, she can read and drive without glasses. My experience with LaserVue has been so wonderful. I had a great treatment and the way they had counseled me through the procedure made it all a very simple and calming experience. I was a bit apprehensive at first because I didn't know exactly what to expect but because they had explained and broken down the procedure step-by-step, I immediately gained confidence with the center and staff there. At first, Maria was a bit unsure about getting LASIK because relatively speaking, her prescription wasn't that high to begin with. She had been walking around blurry without contacts or glasses all her life! After much careful consideration, she decided to have it done because she was tired of not being able to see, especially at night. Today, she is extremely happy about her decision. Not only can she see now but she feels much more comfortable driving at night. Now looking back, she cannot believe that she had walked around with such blurry vision for so many years. It was probably one of the best things I've ever done. I was a little surprised by how easy the surgery was and how little pain there was. Immediately after the surgery, things were a little fuzzy but within a day or two things became much better. You may get a little bit of glare from lights right after the surgery but all that went away, as I have been told by my doctors before the surgery. I'm glad that I did this.
Doctor's Comments:
Roger felt a little nervous before the procedure but he couldn't believe how simple everything was when it was all over. It would be an understatement to say that he had done much better than anything he had ever expected. He was a bit concerned about the initial glare at night but when everything subsided, it reaffirmed his decision to get LASIK in the first place. This is why we spend quite some time counseling patients pre-operatively to ensure that patients have realistic expecations and to help them understand what we can or cannot achieve. It is important to inform patients which of their needs can or cannot be met so they can make an informed decision.

The procedure was painless, quick, and wonderfully empowering. I have been wearing eyeglasses since I was in high school and was always limited by the types of activities that I could participate in. Now I am able to go mountain biking without fear of my glasses falling off. It has been a year since I got the procedure done and I am a very happy patient. Dr. Bansal and his staff are first class. Adrian decided to get LASIK for the same reasons which most patients have--to get rid of glasses and/or contact lenses. In addition, Adrian's a very active person and enjoys mountain biking tremendously. He has always worried about getting his glasses knocked off while biking, which would render him blind and quite helpless on a treacherous trail. Not only that, he just didn't feel as "free" having to depend on them to see. When Stephanie first came in to see us, she was very frustrated with her poor distance and near vision. This has been especially difficult for her because she grew up having "perfect" vision all her life. She had taken an interest in monovision, a setup in which one eye becomes her distance viewing eye while the other is set for reading. Since she had never tried monovision before, I fitted her with contact lenses to simulate the exact setup so she can preview everything to see if she could adapt to it before her procedure. She adjusted very well and can now drive, go the the movies, read the menu and newspaper all without glasses.

Having perfect vision and not having to wear reading glasses all my life, it was difficult adjusting to the sudden blur for reading distance within the last five to six years. That was why I decided to get this procedure done and now I can read again without reading glasses.
Doctor's Comments:
David's frustration with his onset of presbyopia was understandable, especially given that he has never needed glasses his entire life. He was a great candidate for CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) despite the strict parameters that this procedure requires. Instead of laser energy used in LASIK surgeries, the procedure reshapes the cornea by employing radiofrequency energy. CK is the number one non-laser refractive procedure done in the United States and David was glad to be a beneficiary of this technology.
