Patient's Comments

When I came in for my consultation, I was told I was not a candidate for LASIK surgery. I have been wearing glasses since I was four years old. I did qualify for PRK. They told me I would have a longer and more painful recovery time. I was determined not to wear thick lenses or contacts ever again. I came in on a Monday afternoon, less than 30 minutes I was walking out the door seeing perfectly. On day two, I woke up in the night because I felt I had a dog hair in my eye. My husband checked and found nothing. Day three I shopped all day, only closing my eyes to rest for about an hour. Day five I was driving and everything was back to normal, except no glasses! Now I can wear really cool sunglasses and walk in the rain.

Doctor's Comments

Because Linda was extremely nearsighted and had an unique corneal profile, I had recommended PRK (photo-refractive keratectomy) for her instead. Generally, the healing time is more prolonged and sensation of scratchiness is greater than LASIK. However, she came back the next day seeing great and not feeling any irritation at all. Linda's pain threshold could be higher than most people's but this illustrates that every patient's response and healing process is unique, and it's important for patients to understand this before his/her procedure. In fact, Linda had prepared herself for the worst and ended up with the best scenario she could've ever imagined.
